Ayrshire Coastal Path
The Ayrshire Coastal Path is essentially a practical?‘route’?rather than a laid-out formal path.?Especially in the south,?it is primarily a path suitable only for well-equipped agile walkers,?since many stretches are along cliff-tops and rough stony beaches.?South of Glenapp it connects with?the Lochryan Coastal Path?which takes walkers as far as Stranraer and the Southern Upland Way.
We at Cosses Country House will provide transport to Glenapp Church which enables the walker to do the route to Ballantrae (8.3 miles) or transport to Girvan Station where the walker can enjoy the scenic rail journey? over the hills to Stranraer and then walk back via the Lochryan link (11 miles) and Ayrshire coastal path to Ballantrae (8.3 miles) – packed lunches by arrangement.
Stage 1 Glenapp Kirk to Ballantrae
Glenapp Kirk – Sandloch Hill track – Glendrisaig – Craigans – Currarie Port – Downan Hill – Stinchar Road Bridge – Ballantrae Harbour
Distance:?13.5 km = 8.3 miles

Car Parks:?Glenapp Estate has kindly provided an area for day parking by walkers under the trees on the old A77 road beyond the white Cottage exit gate. There is room for 5-6 cars with careful parking and signs have been erected.
We must still ask walkers for consideration for others when parking and would suggest:
1) Use public transport where possible.
2) Preferably leave cars at Ballantrae, take the bus to Glenapp and walk back.
3) Park sensibly – use the parking area provided.
4) Do not leave cars overnight.
5) Do not park down the working estate road on which the Coastal Path runs.
6) Do not park in the Kirk access road or car park.
Walking Summary:?Moderate/Difficult?– 200m and 150m ascents over rough estate roads, grassy cliff-top, livestock, farm tracks and minor roads. Old Stinchar Brig now deemed unsafe by local council.
We strongly advise purchase of?the Guide Book?for a detailed description and map of the route.
